In recent months, many users have posted about bitcoin blackmail scam that users receive via e-mail.
The scam contains a message with your password as an object. In the message the author says he knows your password and that he was able to access your PC through an RDP system that allowed him to watch your monitor and your webcam When you were watching pornografic videos.
Here is an example of the email scam for bitcoins, which a user has posted:
From: __________ <email@example.com>
Date: 10 luglio 2018 12:53:32 CEST
A: “__________” <firstname.lastname@example.org>
Object : admin123
I am aware, admin123, is your pass word. you may not know me and you’re most likely thinking why you are getting this e-mail, right?
Let me tell you, I placed a malware on the adult videos (pornography) and you know what, you visited this web site to experience fun (you know what I mean). When you were watching videos, your internet browser began working as a Rdp (Remote desktop) having a keylogger which gave me access to your display and also webcam. After that, my software obtained your complete contacts from messenger, fb, as well as email.
What did I do?
I created a double-screen video. 1st part displays the video you were viewing (you’ve got a nice taste rofl), and second part displays the recording of your cam.
Exactly what should you do?
Well, honestly, $1900 is a fair price for our little secret. You’ll make the payment through Bitcoin (if you do not know this, search “how to buy bitcoin” in google).
BTC ADDRESS: ___________________________
(It is CASE sensitive, so copy and paste it)
You now have one day in order to make the payment. (I have a special pixel within this email message, and now I know that you have read through this message). If I do not get the BitCoin, I definitely will send out your video recording to all of your contacts including members of your family, colleagues, and many others. nonetheless, if I receive the payment, I’ll erase the video immediately. If you want to have evidence, reply with “yes!” and I will send your video recording to your 8 contacts. It is a non negotiable offer, thus don’t waste my personal time & yours by responding to this email.
How Do Hackers Get Your Passwords?
The password – who received the message – is correct and, if not current, it is still a password actually used in the past. The Hackers have collected millions of passwords exploiting the various leaks in the network, in the dark web, on Torrent, which contain the stolen data from giants like Dropbox, Linkedin and much more.
If you haven’t changed your password, you will have to change this immediately.
Have I Been Pwned, lets us know if our address is included in the various password lists and credentials in the dark web.
They really have the videos of my webcam?
No, they don’t have it! it’s just a fake email that claims payment.
Tipically in extortion – the blackmailer shows to the victim the materials. In this case no material is shown.
I ave to pay?
Paying the ransom is not the solution, since the author does not have your data. Paying, allows hackers to get your own data. This allows them to increase their destructive power and use it for other extortions.
